CH 3 light and Exposure

The process of resampling seemed interesting to me.  Where you can take a picture and make the resolution better later with software.  I think that this would be a great tool to use for older pictures.  I know I have a lot of older pictures taken with cameras that could not make high resolution pictures.  I would love to make some of these pictures better so that I can print them bigger without them being blurry.  I don’t really have to worry about that with the pictures I have taken for class because I have RAW copies of most of them.  This chapter related a lot to when we used lightroom in class.  A lot of the things mentioned were things that I tried adjusting during editing.  I think knowing how to take good pictures is important but sometimes you just need to adjust something later.  Some of these settings are things I don’t always think of.  I keep the white balance on my camera on auto. It doesn’t seem like it would be too hard to start adjusting it myself.  The settings are named by descriptions of the light you are working under which makes it easier to use.

This chapter had some great tips for shooting scenes with a lot of contrasting light.  I really like taking pictures of beams of light.  When I used the camera in automatic mode I focused on the light, then moved the camera.  I have not really tried since I started using manual mode but I would like to try some of the tips.  I might try bracketing exposures.

I also think that using the white balance to make affects could be interesting.  The picture below was taken with a fluorescent white balance while the light in the room was more like direct sunlight.  It makes the picture look cooler, as in temperature, than the other pictures from the same scene.  This could make an outside scene look colder and maybe like it was taken later in the day.

  1. This is a great example when breaking the rules is working. So, yes the color balance is off but completely works.
